Herb collects pins shaped like a painter's pallet. Platon, one of four children of Ariston of the Attic deme (township-parish-district) and Kollytos, was born in May of 427 or 429 BCE and lived eighty, eighty-one, or eighty-two years.

Description:

1980 mixed media
12'h x 11'w x 2'd

An oil painting of a bust of Plato becomes the "canvas mat" of a boxing ring. The painting is covered with graffiti comprising Plato's sayings, ancient Greek architecture and humorous remarks. On the floor stands a Greek-inspired table with Disney's Pluto paying tribute to Plato (like the RCA dog "listening to his masters' voice.")

Concepts:

Oil Painting: Central item.

Country Item: The dish, a Greek kylix for Pluto's offering.

Contracted Art: The fluted pillars that hold the ropes of the boxing ring.

Pun: Although the piece is full of wordplay, Herb becomes the pun by signing the piece
"Greek-ah".
